I think this portrait of Sean Connery taken by Chris Gloag is successful although basic. The black and white effect and sharpness of the photograph reflect Connery’s age through his worn face and present his story. The fact the photographer has had him look directly into the camera makes the industrious message more hard-hitting and captivates the viewer, making them wonder about his history.
I think this portrait taken by Peter Kun Frary is unsuccessful because to me, there is no message being sent to the viewer about the person in the image. The woman seems quite distant and there is no connection between her and those looking at the photograph. There are some successful components to this image though, the fact that the background is out of focus does bring more attention the main focal point of the picture.
